Westwood Street Robberies 10/4/05

On October 4, 2005 in the early morning hours two robberies occurred on the west side of campus. Both incidents were reported to LAPD-West LA Division. One of the victims was confirmed to be a UCLA student, while it is unknown at this time whether the other victim was a student.

The first robbery occurred at approximately 1:00am near the intersection of Midvale and Ophir Ave. The suspect, described as a male Caucasian or Hispanic, 5'7", 170lbs, wearing a gray t-shirt and jeans, approached the victim armed with a handgun and demanded money. The victim complied, giving the suspect a wallet containing the victim's identification and cash. The suspect was last seen walking westbound on Ophir toward Kelton.

The second robbery occurred at approximately 2:00am near the intersection of Strathmore and Gayley Av. The suspect, described as a male African American or Hispanic, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black t-shirt and black shorts, approached the victim armed with a handgun and demanded money. The victim handed over a nylon backpack. The suspect was last seen walking westbound on Strathmore toward Levering.

New Local Business Review Website: Judy's Book

Judy's Book is a new review website in which users can post their reviews about local business around their area. They are also running a promo right now in which if you write 50 reviews and refer 10 friends, you can get a free iPod (info). The site has a slick interface, using Google Maps, but sometimes the UI is too slick for its own good.

While browsing it I often got an "Opps" page when hitting backspace and once I entered in a zipcode to search, I cannot get back to just plain-old http://www.judysbook.com/.

Anyways, there are lots of reviews for restaurants in Westwood (90024), check it out.

Westwood Muggings

While walking out of my apartment this morning I chatted a bit with someone I knew and I found out that she and her friend were mugged at gun point outside our apartment last night!

I did a quick Google News search and found these articles:
Damn! This is the first time I had ever heard of armed robberies in Westwood.

<EDIT>
