Westwood Street Robberies 10/4/05
On October 4, 2005 in the early morning hours two robberies occurred on the west side of campus. Both incidents were reported to LAPD-West LA Division. One of the victims was confirmed to be a UCLA student, while it is unknown at this time whether the other victim was a student.
The first robbery occurred at approximately 1:00am near the intersection of Midvale and Ophir Ave. The suspect, described as a male Caucasian or Hispanic, 5'7", 170lbs, wearing a gray t-shirt and jeans, approached the victim armed with a handgun and demanded money. The victim complied, giving the suspect a wallet containing the victim's identification and cash. The suspect was last seen walking westbound on Ophir toward Kelton.
The second robbery occurred at approximately 2:00am near the intersection of Strathmore and Gayley Av. The suspect, described as a male African American or Hispanic, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black t-shirt and black shorts, approached the victim armed with a handgun and demanded money. The victim handed over a nylon backpack. The suspect was last seen walking westbound on Strathmore toward Levering.
LAPD is handling the investigations of both robberies at this time. It is unknown whether these most recent incidents are related to previously reported robberies in the Westwood area.

Need a piano?

There are two ways for you to view or purchase one of these pianos:
- Private appointment may be arranged for Friday or Saturday, Sept 2 or 3 from 10AM-6PM by calling (310) 267-4600
- Attend the sale to the general public on Sunday or Monday Sept 4 or 5th from Noon until 5:00pm in the Schoenberg Music Building. Enter Campus at Hilgard and Westholme. Use parking lot#2.

Another Westwood Crime Alert
From the Campus Safety Mailing List:
We know there is a concern regarding recent robberies west of campus. Another incident in the area was reported to UCPD on the morning of August 24. In this most recent incident, the victims were walking to campus on the 500 block of Landfair Avenue when they were stopped by the suspect who asked to see their ID. The victims, two male students, produced their wallets and the suspect then demanded money. It is unknown at this time whether this incident is related to any of the other previously reported incidents. New Local Business Review Website: Judy's Book
Judy's Book is a new review website in which users can post their reviews about local business around their area. They are also running a promo right now in which if you write 50 reviews and refer 10 friends, you can get a free iPod (info). The site has a slick interface, using Google Maps, but sometimes the UI is too slick for its own good.
While browsing it I often got an "Opps" page when hitting backspace and once I entered in a zipcode to search, I cannot get back to just plain-old http://www.judysbook.com/.
Anyways, there are lots of reviews for restaurants in Westwood (90024), check it out.

You should basically be able to write well and live in Westwood or go to Westwood frequently.
